service and pricing options
I offer a sliding scale of pricing options so services can be accessible regardless of income level. The scale is an opportunity for us to explore our privileges and share our resources so there can be access for everyone. By being part of a broad community sharing resources, we ALL gain from each other, no matter what your resources are (for not all resources are financial, as ya know). It’s ok to have resources, and it’s ok not to have them. That’s what the scale is designed to account for! Also, I know financial reality is complex, so don’t stress. Book from the menu that best aligns with yours. No proof of income is required.
Not sure how to place yourself on the scale? Click the link to my “How-to” guide here below.
This experiment is evolving without perfection, as I do. Please feel free to help me grow this model together and reach out if you have any questions or suggestions. Link to book your appointment at the bottom of this page. Thank you for booking!
BASE PRICING
Base Pricing is my standard full price menu. It reflects the fair market value for the kind of service and experience I provide…PLUS supports access for others by sustaining my sliding scale pricing system, AND covers the cost of keeping my salon near zero waste (my salon waste is recycled with Green Circle, who donates your hair trimmings to clean up oil spills and keeps your service 95% landfill free). If you have the choice to afford recreational travel, or comparably priced dining, shopping, or self care, this price is for you. Thank you for using your resources to support at this scale!
Base Haircut Pricing starts at $95 and up. Bang trims are $30. Full pricing menu when you click to book. (*Due to limited availability, bang trims are for existing clients only at this time).
RELIEF PRICING
Relief pricing is available to those who normally book on the Base Pricing scale, but an extended loss of income has altered your ability to afford that level, yet you do not feel you qualify for low-income Community Care pricing. If you do not have the ability to afford recreational travel, comparably priced shopping, dining out, or self care at this time, but you know you retain a degree of choice / earning power / class mobility / ability to weather tough times due to your level of education, racial privilege, or class background, this pricing is for you! Relief pricing is slightly below the market rate for comparable services in Los Angeles, so although it does not contribute to sustaining the sliding scale, it does sustain me individually, and I thank you for your support! We have to hold each other in times like these. If a haircut would lift your spirits and it’s just out of reach, please good lord let’s get some spirit lifting done. We need infinite amounts more of it in this world.
**Please note that this pricepoint is not intended for those who have the choice to work at a lower wage or the choice not to work due to the support of a partner or family. In those cases, I ask you to recognize this as a choice, and to book higher on the scale. Please also book higher on the scale if affording services is a sacrifice rather than a hardship. A sacrifice is a tradeoff with another comparable luxury expense (like shoes, a nice dinner, or travel) vs. a hardship which is a tradeoff with a basic need (like rent or groceries). Finally, the sliding scale offering is also NOT about what one might feel a service SHOULD cost, or would PREFER to pay, but what you CAN afford to access. A good rule of thumb is to always book at the top of what you CAN (and whatever that is, is ok). This way the scale can remain a sustainable offering.
Relief Pricing starts at $70 and up. Bang trims are $20. Full pricing menu when you click to book. (*Due to limited availability, bang trims are for existing clients only at this time).
COMMUNITY love PRICING
Community Love pricing is available to neighborhood residents with a generational connection to El Sereno / Boyle Heights / Lincoln Heights / and Eastern LA. If you were born here, raised here, or have lived in this community all of your life, this option is for you! It is offered, regardless of ability to pay more, in gratitude, reciprocity, and acknowledgement of the community that was here before me. It also helps offset the cost of offering lower pricing for our neighbors with fewer resources, so on top of the value of a great haircut, you are part of supporting access for others in our local community when you book. Thank you!
Community Love Pricing starts at $70 and up. Bang trims are $20. Full pricing menu when you click to book. (*Due to limited availability, bang trims are for existing clients only at this time).
Community CARE pricing
Community Care Pricing is available to low-income clients. The same luxury experience and high quality as all of my cuts, but with the price comparable to the current pricing at Supercuts. If you are low income and able to meet your basic needs, but do not have the same choices as someone who has support from a partner or family with a mid to high income, or the earning power / class mobility afforded by education level, racial privilege, or generational wealth, this pricepoint is for you! Know that you are loved and held by your community regardless of income, because we know not all resources are financial. Thank you for booking! This pricing is as low as I can sustain on my scale, but if it is still inaccessible to you, please reach out to book for one of my free haircut Sundays. See below.
Community Care Pricing starts at $35 and up. Bang trims are $10. Full pricing menu when you click to book. (*Due to limited availability, bang trims are for existing clients only at this time).
free haircut SUNDAYS
On the first Sunday of every month, I offer free cuts to anyone for whom there is not a comfortable option on the sliding scale range. By appointment. Contact me via email or text to reserve your space!
I would like to credit Hadassah Damien, author of www.wildfreefearlessmoney.com, for her guidance in developing a business model whose point is not to extract as much profit as possible, but rather allow me to make values-aligned choices while doing a thing that I love, with and for the people who value it, while being able to afford a life that sustains both me and our greater community.
